Beetle Juice(1988)

Movie overview:

So this is a Tim Burton’s movie, of course it will be good.  At the time, Tim Burton isn’t that famous, he’s a very famous director of Hollywood right now. OK so I can see that there is Michael Keaton in this movie, which is great, the first ever successful batman actor. Also I see Geena Davis, and Alec Baldwin, at the time Alec Baldwin is just a normal actor, Geena Davis is famous, but now Alec Baldwin is a Hollywood legend. If you look at the cover, you cannot clearly tell whether it is a scary movie or a funny movie, because there is elements of scary, but also the element of humorous on the cover . A Tim Burton movie will not be bad, so lets go!

Movie Review:

Tim Burton first successful movie! And his career is growing up and bigger.  This movie is good, the horror and the comedy elements really go good together, I cannot say this is dark humor movie, because it is not that scary, it just funny scary image . So at the first scene, we see a happy family scene of Adam (Alec Baldwin) and Barbara (Geena Davis), then they go to the grocery store, and they drive down a river, and then die. So straight away we see that they will turn into ghosts. They return in their house after a long period of time, they discovered that they are ghosts, which they didn’t seem to be surprise that much. A new family moves into the house, so Barbara and Adam are trying to scare them away.  Beetle Juice is an undertaker, and he is aiming at Barbara and Adam. So this is a funny movie after all, because of Michael Keaton voice in the movie. There is a girl in the new family, she is a loner, she likes the house because it’s scary, and she discovers Adam and Barbara, who hide on the attic. Beetle Juice tries to get out by trying convincing Adam and Barbara to say his name three times so he can get out and “help” them. Adam and Barbara read a guide book about afterlife, and they found they way to get to the afterlife helping center. They have a mentor who warns them about Beetle Juice. Adam and Barbara aren’t good haunters, so nobody in the house scare of them, in facts the girl in the house likes them. Barbara accidently says “Beetle Juice” 3 times so he got out and messes with the family, but he got trapped again. The family now knows there are ghosts in their new house, so they call their friends to see the ghosts. The girl in the house is now friend with the ghost, and she met Beetle Juice earlier in the movie, and he tries to make say his name 3 times so he can get out but she refuse to applies. She came down to the dining area and she sees her family and their friends are having a requiem to call upon the ghosts. A family fat guy name Ernie say something so the ghosts can appear in the marriage clothes that they put on the table according to the death guide book, Ernie gets on the attic earlier in the movie( Where Barbara and Adam hide). So he say the ghost calling phrase, then Barbara and Adam appear in the clothes. The girl then call upon Beetle Juice to help Adam and Barbara, he gets out and mess up with the family and save Adam and Barbara. They get save from Beetle Juice and he tries to marry the girl (her name is Jane btw) so he can be forever releases. Barbara and Adam are trying to say his name 3 times so he can get locked again, with a lot of tries they finally did it, he get locked and Adam, Barbara let the family stay in the house and the 2 family live happily with each other. With a lot of humor, disgusting but funny images, jokes from Beetle Juice and funny conversations this movie is great, to be honest I don’t like the plot that much.
