The movie looks like it going to be fun when I take a glance at it, It looks like some sort of Film Noir or a Horror movie. the casting crew and the director also impresses me. Johnny Depp, he is a phenomenal actor, one of the most expensive and valuable actor of the film world. Helena Botham Carter, she is a tremendous actress, the very best when it came to an emo-like movie. There is also Sacha Baron Cohen, most of people knows him as Borat, outside of that incredible character, he also a great actor as well. Then there are Alan Rickman and Timothy Spall, these two were the biggest villains in Hollywood, and it will be great to have them in any movie at all, they always seal the deal of being the character that kids hate so much. This movie is directed by Tim Burton, one of the best when talking about movie directing. Lots of memorable films were made by him: Ed Wood, Batman, Edward Scissorhand… This movie had the familiar crew of Johnny Depp, Helena, and Tim Buton and I think it will share the same mood as well.
In the Victorian London, the barber Benjamin Barker is married to the gorgeous Lucy and they have a lovely child, Johanna. The beauty of Lucy attracts the attention of the corrupt Judge Turpin, who falsely accuses the barber of a crime that he did not commit and abuses Lucy later after gaining custody of her. After fifteen years in exile, Benjamin returns to London under the new identity of Sweeney Todd, seeking revenge against Turpin. He meets the widow Mrs. Lovett who is the owner of a meat pie shop who tells him that Lucy committed suicide with arsenic many years ago, and Turpin assigned himself tutor of Johanna. He opens a barber shop above her store, initiating a crime rampage against those who made him suffer and lose his beloved family.
There are nothing I can say that is bad about this movie, it is a terrific film that will last very long in my memory. It was so good, the acting and the cinematography is top notch. One of the best work of Tim Burton, I believed. This movie brought the style of Tim Burton out drastically, the depressing mood, along with the Gothic scenery fitted the story of the movie perfectly. Tim Burton simply cannot failed at making people felt weird and uncomfortable yet having fun watching. I admired this guy and this movie so much. The intesity level of this movie was high a long with the masterfully written music and lyrics. It was really sad that they didn’t win Oscars for the cinematography category and the leading acting performance, because Johnny Depp was awesome. Not to say that any other cast members didn’t do a good job, they were also phenomenal. Sacha Baron Cohen stand despite his lacked of appearance, he played his role perfectly, and his accent stuck in people head. Helena Bonham Cater portrayed her role tremendously. She look like a very emo-looking woman, and that was always awesome. And then there was Timothy Spall, always the best as a very cunning villain. At last, Alan Rickman, his voice said it all, one of the true master when it came to playing a antagonist. The music was pretty awesome, lots of very nice tracks, I did download the album to my mp3 though, but I’m musically blind so I don’t really know what the music good at, it just really catchy for me. The music also can be a conversation, It was really resembled to a Broadway musical, where music define the story, in facts I think this movie original script was from Broadway. Anyway you look at this movie, you can only say one thing, It super awesome from top to bottom, really entertaining and riveting.
Lots of scenes can made my list, but my favorite would be the first time Sacha Baron Cohen appeared as a famous barber name Perelli, supposedly a young aquaintance of the protagonist. Like I said before, his singing stucked in people head. Also this scene showed you how good Sweeney Todd is, a clean shave in 5 second, that was awesome. Also Perrelli sang and shaved at the same time, but both his singing and shaving was good so that was hillarious, he lost and didn’t take it too well. All of the throat slashing scene really entertained me, the effect was very bloody, very over the top. The second scene that I like was the scene where, Sweeney Todd and Mrs Lovett sang a song about the type of meats that the people outside can provided, the lyric was so well done, a very catchy song, and it was hilarious, due to how cruel the lyrics were. The scene where Judge Turpin, arrived in Sweeney Todd shop the first time, it was a really nice rising action sequence, it keep the intensity level up, making the audience waiting for what they were expecting. The last scene that I like was the ending scene, very nice way to close out the movie, the ending was exactly like the Broadway version, this was a Broadway show anyway.
MY RATE: 9/10
